Sex, then amnesia...and it's no soap opera

(CNN) -- It was either mind-blowing or completely forgettable. Either way, Alice doesn't remember.

One August morning, Alice and her husband, Scott, had sex.

That's when things became confusing. Rather than appearing pleased, Alice, 59, seemed disoriented.

As they lay in bed, Scott (the couple asked that their last name not be used) flicked on the television, which was showing the Olympics. This perplexed Alice. "Is there an Olympics?" she asked. This was during the Michael Phelps mania, when the swimmer seemed to be everywhere.

"Are you sure there is an Olympics?" Alice asked again.

Girl missing 18yrs found alive

Sacramento - Sheriff's officials said on Thursday they believe a woman who walked into a police station had been kidnapped as an 11-year-old in 1991 outside her South Lake Tahoe home.

The woman came into the Concord police station and said she was Jaycee Lee Dugard, the victim of the abduction 18 years ago, said the official,  Les Lovell.

"We're 99% sure it's her and DNA tests were being conducted."

Lovell said Concord police did an investigation after the woman surfaced and he received a call on Wednesday from investigators who had tentatively identified her as Dugard.

Teen held after girlfriend burns to death

A 19-year-old man was arrested for burning his girlfriend, 16, to death in Mmametlhake, Mpumalanga police said on Sunday.

Constable Hastings Chaane said the boy visited his lover at her home at 12.30pm on Friday when she was alone.

An argument started between the two teenagers after the girl received a call on her cellphone from a private number.

"The boy apparently accused his lover of cheating on him with another man. He beat her up with fists until she collapsed. He then doused his girlfriend with petrol and set her alight," Chaane said.

Chaane said all these acts occurred outside the house in the yard but no one else in the neighbourhood seemed to notice

There's got to be something wrong with you to even consider at first to beat your girlfriend, or ANY woman for that matter, that's the start, then burn them? sounds like an american movie, g'damn man sad shit!

Sweet and short, Zuma's been put up for corruption again.

SCA upholds appeal

The Supreme Court of Appeal on Monday upheld an appeal by the National Director of Public Prosecutions against a High Court ruling that halted the prosecution of African National Congress leader Jacob Zuma.

This means that Zuma, the frontrunner for the presidency in the upcoming elections, will still have to face corruption charges. - Sapa

Everytime I look at the news there is more kak happening with the ANC, now recently the Cape Town mayor leaves the ANC, could this be the start of a looooooooong downfall.

Since Mandela Retired as president and *left* the ANC, it's certainly only gone for a downer, problem is that they need leaders in their organization, and all they have is dictators. problem.

Cape mayor quits the ANC

Cedarburg municipality has a new DA mayor after ANC proportional representative Sylvia Newman resigned from the post and the party on Wednesday - leaving the ANC with 21 days to replace her on the council.

DA ward councillor Judith Mouton has taken over the post temporarily.

Control of the Cedarburg municipality is with the DA after the ANC had failed to register its delegates for last week's by-elections.

Newman said she would consider her options, which could include joining the Congress of the People (COPE).

SA among top 20 most dangerous places

Terror-reeling India and South Africa have something in common: both are rated as one of the world's 20 most dangerous countries.

Backed by travel advice issued by the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), London's The Telegraph newspaper has placed South Africa alongside Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Colombia, Haiti, Eritrea, Pakistan, Burundi, Nigeria and the DRC in terms of danger to travellers.

According to the FCO, South Africa has "an underlying threat from terrorism".

"Attacks, although unlikely, could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers."

Infact a colleage at BNI was robbed last week at a shopping mall, and a very good friend of ours who's just had a child had dropped the kid off (6 months old) at his folks over the weekend, and on driving our was hijacked, AWESOME hey?

Malema's days coming to an end?

Meet Anele Mda, dubbed as the South Africa Democratic Congress's answer to ANC Youth League firebrand Julius Malema.

Since the ANC's December conference in Polokwane and Jacob Zuma's ascension to the ANC throne, Malema has emerged as the new ANC president's most vocal supporter, quickly gaining both fame and infamy for his often rabid war-talk in support of Zuma's attempt to be the country's president.

Zuma has now been challenged by the breakaway SADC. And one of Terror Lekota and Mbhazima Shilowa's key lieutenants is Mda, tipped as the SADC's most likely youth leader, and thus Malema's direct political opponent.

honestly, do you really think that Malema is going to "lie down" heh, I still think there is going to be large conflict in this country with this new party.

In saying that the ANC has lost 1000's of supporters over the past few months of political problems in the country, and I do believe that ALOT of people will be voting for the breakaway party, that's for sure.

Wall Street loses .2 trillion

Washington - Monday's record stock plunge saw approximately .2 trillion wiped off the market value - the first-ever trillion-dollar one-day loss, according to the Dow Jones Wilshire 5000, the broadest measure of market activity.

The biggest-ever loss is almost double the size of the rescue package rejected by the US House of Representatives earlier on Monday.

Markets around the world panicked after lawmakers voted down the 0bn bailout for the financial system, raising the prospect of deeper financial turmoil.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average sank 777.68 points (6.98 percent) to close at 10 365.45, in its biggest single-day point decline ever.

Marissa Mayer Demos Google’s New Online Newspaper Archive Search

Google announced today that it is expanding the historical newspaper articles that are searchable online. In partnership with newspaper publishers, it is scanning their print archives and making it available on Google’s News Archive Search. Google’s Marissa Mayer is going to demo the News Archive onstage later today. She showed me a sneak peak of what makes this special. The articles are scanned, and optical character recognition can distinguish between headlines and text. This is an outgrowth of the technologies Google uses to scan books, but it is more advanced and tuned to newsprint pages.

We love Google’s news archive searcgh because it lets us find newspaper stories from decades ago, and learn new things about the people and companies we cover. Try this one out for “Lord Flathead.” That was For instance, MySpace co-founder Tom Anderson’s handle when he was a teenage War Games hacker.
